Departing soon: All Aboard the Mornington Express Wine and Dine Train again in 2019

It’s hard to believe that almost 12 months has passed since my first Melbourne Food and Wine Festival in conjunction with the hard-working volunteers of the Mornington Railway. It’s a day that my team and I will never forget.

We prepped the venue the day before the event in perfect warm conditions but the weather forecast was already filling us with dread. Sure enough, the heavens opened barely an hour before guests started to arrive the next day.

We couldn’t control the weather but I was determined that everyone would still experience an event to remember. So instead of serving canapes on the platform, we invited guests to board the train immediately.

Before long, the drinks were flowing and the rain thrumming against the roof of the train was just background noise. We served main course, featuring the best produce that the Mornington Peninsula has to offer, as the whistle sounded and the train left the platform.

As if rewarded for our efforts, the clouds broke and the Moorooduc platform was soon bathed in warm autumn sunshine. To celebrate, we welcomed guests back from the short trip to Mornington with dessert served on the platform – as we had planned all along!

I’m delighted to announce that 100 Mile Foodie and the Mornington Railway are once again teaming up under the Melbourne Food and Wine Festival banner. Let’s hope that Mother Nature is a little kinder this year but we’ll be ready regardless!

We’ll again be celebrating the produce and wine for which the Mornington Peninsula is famous across a plentiful three-course menu and guests will once again enjoy the unique journey from Moorooduc to Mornington via rail.

Our event is part of the Melbourne Food and Wine Festival’s Regional Weekend, which is dedicated to showcasing the producers, chefs and winemakers of regional Victoria. The Melbourne Food and Wine Festival is supported by Victoria’s tourism and major events company Visit Victoria and naming rights partner Bank of Melbourne
