After school Kids 9-12 years Kitchen-garden Cooking Class

After school is a time for fun activities and that's exactly what our Kitchen-garden cooking class is all about as well as being a great opportunity to learn new things.

Throughout the term we will focus our recipes on a theme of cultural dishes using the vegetables, fruit, herbs and edible flowers that are harvested from the the 100 mile foodie garden or from local farms on the Mornington Peninsula.

We will share a healthy afternoon tea on arrival whilst discussing the recipes we will be cooking in the class, then we will harvest what we need from the garden, collect eggs from the chickens, pick edible flowers and begin cooking.

Recipes such as Vietnamese rice paper rolls, Greek salad with lamb skewers in pita bread, Tomato and Basil pizza with garden salad and lots more.

Will we create everything together 100% hands on then share the meal around the table

Learning outcomes will include literacy through recipe reading, numeracy through weighing and measuring ingredients as well as the opportunity to learn about harvesting and seasonal planting in the garden.

The exciting new flavours and recipes the children will create is of course one of the most exciting learning outcomes as well as kitchen and food safety which I cover in detail before we start cooking.
